Sakotsu-Uchi: Great for boards, not so great for waffles!

We had another great session at St. John’s!  The entire group (24 students) promoted to the next belt level on March 29th, 2012  We are offering a half day camp at this facility the week of June 18-22nd!

1.  The full day Towson Merritt camp is nearly filled, so if you are interested, you need to sign up quickly.  There is still availability in the other camps as well. 
2.  The Towson Merritt May promotion will be held on Monday, May 21st and Wednesday, May 23rd, the candidates list will be posted soon. 
3.  We have another off-site program beginning this Thursday, April 19th at St. Paul’s Lower School with their after-school program.  A registration form can be accessed here. 
4.  Federal Hill Prep has asked us to return for a another session, which will run May 9th through June 6th. A registration form can be accessed here.
5.  We will be holding Bushido Club and  Weapons Club next Weds., April 25th from 5:45 – 6:45 pm. in the big group aerobics room (for all brown belt students and above).

This was our Dojo gift to Kaicho which Sensei Tom made for him! The Hayashi family made the tile which is on the front of the planter. Kaicho loved them and they really were a wonderful addition to Johshin Honzan! They say “welcome” to the front entryway!

Please note – there will be no children’s classes this Friday evening, February 3, 2012.

Just a reminder that this coming Monday, Feb. 6 is promotion for adults. Along with this promotion, we will be holding a fighting clinic, so please, please, please plan on being here until at least 8 or 8:30 p.m. We will probably go out and grab a bite to eat after the promotion/clinic, so please feel free to join us for that as well. For those adults that have children in tow on normal nights, we would like to respectfully ask that some other arrangement be made for their pick up, for just this one night.

• We will hold our regular class schedule on Monday, January 16.
• Children’s promotions will be held on Wednesday, January 25. The candidate list and schedule will posted by Monday, January 16.
• Please plan to attend class on Wednesday, Jan 25th and be available at 5:45 p.m. for another group photo for the website. Also – please wear your favorite Ravens jersey over your karate uniform. (if for some unknown reason, you don’t have a favorite Ravens jersey, shirt, whatever ?!?, then just wear your regular karate uniform).
• Adults’ promotions will be held on Monday, February 6 from 5:45-8:30 p.m.
• Bushido Club and Weapons Club will be held together on Friday, January 27 from 7-8 p.m. If you own a bokken (wooden sword), please bring it with you to class that evening.

• No classes will be held at the Merritt location during the week between Christmas and New Year’s … except for Weds., December 28th when we will hold Bushido Club @ 5:45-6:45 p.m. and Weapons Club from 6:45-7:45 p.m. Junior black belts should remember to bring your tonfa and to wear your black gi tops!
• It is not too late to purchase items for the holiday … does your child need a new uniform? are they promoting to green belt and need sparring gear? lots of great gift ideas from the Century catalog, so pick one up the next time you come into class!

• Weapons Club for Junior Black Belts will be held with Sensei Tom on Wednesday, November 2 at 5:45pm. (Please bring tonfa and wear black gi tops.)
• A meeting for instructors will be held after classes on Monday, November 7.
• Promotions will be held on Wednesday, November 9.
• Merritt held their grand re-opening party this past weekend… Please continue to store your shoes on the step within the karate room to help de-clutter the hallways. Thanks for all of your help during the difficult reconstruction time!

• Kyoshi Karen has Halloween Gift Certificates available to hand out to trick-or-treaters. Remember that if you refer someone and they sign up, you receive $10 off tuition for one month.
• There will be a meeting for instructors on Wednesday evening, October 26.
• There will be no classes on Friday, October 28 as Merritt is closing at 12pm to get ready for their Grand Opening on Saturday.
• Classes will be held on Halloween, Monday, October 31!

• Bushido Club will be held this Friday, October 21, from 7pm-8pm! Get ready to roll up your gi sleeves and practice with the jo and bo!
• On Monday, October 24, at 5:45pm, we are asking everyone to stay a bit late or come a bit early for a dojo group photo. Smile and say, “Osu!”
