Kells Karate Academy Students Participate in the 47th Annual Seido Karate Tournament

Congratulations to all of our Towson students that competed in the 47th Annual Seido Karate Tournament!

We are very proud of the 13 students from Kells Karate Academy that entered to compete, regardless of how they did in the standings. It takes real courage to put yourself out there in front of everyone and compete. So kudos to those of you who supported the Seido Juku Benefit Foundation!!! That being said, everyone did a great job! We had lots of first and second place standings!

Congratulations to our new Nidan students

Congratulations to our four new Nidan students! Jun Shihan Karen was so happy to be at Johshin Honzan to help Senpai Mark, Dan, Alex and Nicholas reach their #goals of #blackbelt and the journey that continues after #shodan. It was also wonderful to see so many of our seniors and peers.

Super Summer Spectacular Series – 2023

Summer is just about here and the fun is just heating up at Kells Karate Academy!

Our Super Summer Spectacular Series will begin next week, June 19th, with weekly, monthly and end of Summer prizes for attendance in classes.

For those students that are new to the program: during the summer we try to have a little more FUN during the break from school!  Each time that you attend a karate class, your name will be entered into the drawing for weekly and monthly (family) prizes, such.

Weekly prizes will be $10 gift certificates to local business (i.e. Dunkin Donuts, Rita’s, etc). Monthly prizes will be fun things, like family games, etc.

The more you come to class the more chances you have to win a prize. You can earn more entries if you take one of the Flat Instructors (download in the members resources page within ZenPlanner) on vacation with you and post on social media.  You can also earn an extra entry ticket by bringing a friend to class with you.

At the end of the summer, we will have a drawing for our Grand Prize: a new iPad!

So see you in class and let’s have FUN this summer!

Dads in the Dojo – Dads of our students train for FREE in the month of June*

Hey Dads! Did you know that many of our adult students started as parents that joined their kids in class? Would you like to learn a bit of karate and train with your student(s) during class? Are you ready for some fun and hard work?

I hope you answered “yes” to those questions, because we invite you to do just that… train with your student! Contact Jun Shihan Karen (karen@kellskarate.com) if you are interested in joining your student for some karate training and fun!

Bring a yoga mat and some water and your best Dad energy! It’s going to be a great to have you in class!

Dojo closed the week of Mon 6/5 – Sun 6/11 for new floor install – Classes moved to parking garage

We are excited to announce that our new floors have arrived and are going to be installed in the dojo starting this Monday 6/5! We’re hoping the work is complete during the week so we can open dojo the following week. We’ll keep you in the loop.

While the dojo itself will be closed during the install, classes continue on the normal schedule. All classes will be held outdoors, at the Upper Level of the parking garage behind the dojo building.

Please bring the following items for outdoor classes:

  • Shoes that tie – please no Crocs, flipflops or sandals. Students will have to train barefoot if the incorrect footwear is worn, due to risk of slippage.
  • A yoga mat, car mat, towel or the like. We still work on our core exercises, so this will give the students something softer than the concrete to lay on.
  • A full water bottle.

Directions to garage:

  • Enter at the light, by Wawa
  • Instead of turning left to go to the dojo, bear right, around Glory Days Grill, and continue on the road next to Wawa
  • Continue straight and you will see the parking garage in front of you. You’ll need to turn left and then right to get to the upper level.
  • Please park on the half of the garage closest to the entrance, as we will hold classes on the other half.

Note: Classes will be held on the Upper Level, unless it is too hot or raining. Then they will be on the Lower Level. If you don’t see anyone at the Upper Level at class time, assume classes were moved to the Lower Level.

There are NO BATHROOMS at this location, so please make sure your student has used the facilities before coming to class. There are public bathrooms at the WaWa.
